To All People Who Care About Animals,
In 2007, Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, a so called ‘artist’, took a dog from the streets, tied it up to a short rope attached to a wall in an art gallery, and, in the name of “art” let it slowly die of hunger and thirst. For many days, the author of this horrible cruelty and the visitors of the gallery were simply spectators of the poor animal’s torture, until it slowly died after an absurd and incomprehensible agony. Do you think this is cruel? No doubt you do but the story doesn’t end here: the prestigious Biennale Centroamericana of Art has decided, incomprehensibly, that the utter cruelty committed by the aforementioned individual is ‘art’, and Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat this sadism at the 2008 Biennale Centroamericanan which will be held in Honduras. PLEASE! LET’S STOP HIM! Sign here: http://www.petitiononline.com/ea6gk/petition.html
You don’t have to pay nor register, and its worth doing it so that this man will never be appreciated nor be called an artist for performing such a heinous act, for such an insensitivity and for provoking another living being’s pain. It takes just ten seconds of your time. Please help to avoid the unnecessary, cruel and sadistic suffering of an innocent animal.
If you ‘google’ the ‘artists’ name you’ll see other web pages related to this matter.
Kill the artist in the same way – I have no respect for this pig, who calls himself an artist. And shame to the people who throught this was art and stood by and watched. It’s disgusting too see what extent people are going to, to create what they refer too as art. Why has the Government not stepped in to stop this man? Boycott the whole country, put the message on travel blogs etc – why should tourists, go and support a county with no morals……
I makes my stomack turn to think that such creators still walk this planet – in my eyes. He’s nothing more than capable of killing a child – if he hasn’t already done that.. you very, very, very sick prick I hope you die a cruel and painful death at the hands of a crazed man who tears you limb for limb you arshole!!! This should be a sign to the child protection units in this country that this man will if not has already hurt children……………………………………… Do something NOW.
THIS IS DISGUSTING AND REPULSIVE THAT A HUMAN BEING COULD DO THIS TO A COMPLETELY INNOCENT CREATURE! AND FOR ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO WALKED BY AND DIDN’T DO ANYTHING…YOU ALL DESERVE TO BE PUNISHED FOR THIS. HOW ABOUT HE DOES ANOTHER EXHIBIT WITH A CHILD MOLESTER THIS TIME! TIE THEM UP TO A WALL AND WATCH THEM STARVE! NOT A COMPLETELY INNOCENT AND DEFENSELESS ANIMAL!
Thanks for your comments, I hope that the petition is successful. Please send the link to your friends. This is the only way to stop this ‘artist’.
This man is not an artist, he is a vile human being who suffers from a mental illness! Anyone who abuses art by torturing animals needs to be tortured himself to understand pain and suffering, Many great artists suffered from a variety of physycal and mental problems but none of them tortured animals and called it art! Who in their right mind would allow this to be in the same category as Monet, Picasso, Michalengelo and the rest!
You are a VERY VERY SICK man how could you even think this was ART??? You are a disgrace to the human race How would you like it if someone put you o a rope and didnt feed you for a while YOU WOULD NOT LIKE IT AND YOU WOULD SAY IT WAS NOT RIGHT WELL RIGHT BACK AT YOU
YOU ARE SLIM THAT I WOULD FIND ON THE BOTTOM OF MY SHOES!!!!!
Can I say sick………….lets starve him to death…PETA …please watch this sick person and get the next animal before this happens…….May the Lord be with him…………….
Maybe there is more to this. I have written about it here:

Hello,
I just learned of the Costa Rican artist Guillermo Vegas. He exhibited a piece that has a title translated form Spanish to “you are what you read”. I think this is brilliant. Thats just one of my opinions. This piece has inspired tons of blog activity and a petition campaign designed to prevent him from creating the piece again in the “Biennale Centroamericana Honduras 2008″. I haven’t read anything on the web that is in support of his piece “you are what you read”.
His piece was very simple you can see photos and videos on-line. He found one of the many stray dogs on the streets of Costa Rica. This god like many was very close to it’s death. He captured the dog and tied it up in the gallery the day of the opening. No one was to feed or give water to the dog. The dog died the next day.
As expected animal activist are in a tizzy about it. The artist is spoken of as evil. Perhaps he is. I have a feeling that in reality he’s probably not all that bad. He’s stimulated a viral like support for suffering animals. People are mad and doing something about it, when before they might not have cared.
I don’t know if the artist should not be allowed to show his concept again. I think that it’s good for our society to see this kind of thing up front, not to hide from it but to embrace it and to do something positive about. Like any artist the artist had to do it.
The dog wasn’t killed like may say, the god was left to die like so many others are every day. They aren’t left by an one person in partticular. They are left by every single person in the world.
Any one that knows me know that I am an animal lover and it is sad for me to see this kind of suffering in an being. But, I feel that it is important for people see these things first hand. I feel that it is important for the reaction, the awareness that it spawns and ultimately leads to a better situation for the suffering.
I wish there was a way for me congratulate Vargas on a dog gone job well done,
Joe
Why shouldn’t it be art. Art is not just paintings of puppies and roses. In fact I would argue that a simple painting of a puppy or a rose is hardly art but is mere decoration and a wast of time. You know a pleasant wast of time, like a good baseball game is.
See, What i think that you are arguing when you say that this is not art is that this is not beautiful. And, that is true on many levels. However this is compelling, stimulating, a shadow of the real world that we live in. This is realism in a strong way. Harsh and cruel, this is true.
The man did not kill the dog. He did not save the dog. He treated the dog as dogs are treated all over the world. He did this poetically to make a statement.
Now, are you mad at the speaker? Or, the truth that he speaks? Do you want to assassinate the wisdom? Or, learn from it’s truths?
I am not sure you have read all about the artist. He is from Nicaragua. In the city he lives, there is a big problem of dogs starving and dying on the street. As any other artist – he wanted to highlight the problem. This was his way of doing it. Further – there is no proof that he actually starved the animal or that it died because of the display. The artist is purposely not clarifying that to the media. It’s his view that people are hypocritical and do not do any good actually when they see a dog on the streets; while they seem to make a lot of noise of it on the internet. Even the animal rights activists are not claiming that he killed the animal. They are just against using live animals as exhibits. As a normal, thinking and empathetic person – I actually would hope that you understand his point-of-view … surprised that you don’t !!!
This man is sick and the people that went to see this poor dog are also sick….how could any human being with a heart watch this poor animal why did noone do anything the whole thing is odd and where was the Animal wellfair, why wasnt they called…..Anyone that supports this man is just as much a sadist as he is the man is sick and so are all those on lookers…If this happens again god forbid then peole should stop talking about it and help the animal and charge this sick man with animal cruelty…
We thought Hitler was dead well i think hes been reencarnated in this vulgar man….who himself should be tortured….as well as the on lookers that done nothing to stop this…
What a world we live in. I had a whole thing typed, but I erased it. It’s a waste of my time. I really hope my next life is on a planet with some ‘higher’ level thinking.
~Deep breath~
